Nicola Streeten
Dr. Nicola Streeten is an anthropologist turned illustrator and multi-award-winning graphic novelist and comics scholar. Her graphic memoir Billy, Me & You (Myriad Editions, 2011) was followed by The Inking Woman (Myriad Editions, 2018) a 250-year illustrated history of British women’s cartoonists. This was complemented by the theoretical publication UK Feminist Cartoons and Comics: A Critical Survey (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020).
Nicola is the Director of LDComics – a women-led forum supporting and championing graphic novel works, particularly by women. In this capacity, she received a British Council International Collaboration award in 2022 to deliver REVEAL! Women’s Comics East Africa-UK. Working with a partner in Kenya the project platforms and celebrate women’s stories in comics form around gender and climate change from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and UK East African diaspora.
