Manon Wright

… is an American-born illustrator of Hong Kong Chinese and African-American descent. She is a lover of stories and has a penchant for creating dreamy and surreal artwork. Manon’s passion lies in weaving narratives that explore the depths of empathy and understanding between individuals from diverse cultures, classes, and lived experiences. Because of her personal history as a mixed-race woman and her experience living between multiple cultures and communities, she’s interested in postcolonial themes and exploring the possibility of healing the divisions caused by warring ideologies, selfishness and the coercive nature of global capital between nations. In her current project, she continues to consider whether individuals can fix a broken world through peaceful means or if true change requires violence and revolution.

Her artistic journey has been enriched by an eclectic blend of inspirations, drawing from Western and Eastern comics, mythology, political philosophy and the encounters she has had during her travels.

In recognition of her self-published work, Manon was awarded the prestigious 2021 Thought Bubble Comics Creator Prize and was selected as one of Broken Frontier’s “Six to Watch” for 2022.
