Leigh Timmis is a record-breaking ultra-endurance cyclist, motivational speaker, and author
of The Race of Truth.
On the 26 th of September 2018, Leigh pedalled into the record books, becoming the fastest
person to cycle across Europe in a time of 16 days 10 hours and 45 minutes. Leading a team
of sports science experts, he pioneered an innovative “no compromise” approach to ultra-
endurance cycling to break the previous world record by an astonishing eight days and
seventeen hours. In November 2022, Leigh became a double world record holder, riding
2230 miles - the greatest distance cycled in seven days.
These incredible achievements were built upon a unique and inspirational journey of self-
discovery. In 2010, Leigh left the UK to cycle around the world on his epic, solo expedition of
44,000 miles over seven years, across 51 countries, and on a budget of only £5 per day.
Pushing the limits of cycling and human endurance, he rode his bicycle in some of the most
inhospitable places on Earth but also to some of the most magnificent.
Leigh’s life changing experiences have instilled within him a deep belief in the goodness and
strength of humanity. Since returning from his first epic adventure in April 2017, Leigh has
focused on helping others to become better versions of themselves though motivational
speeches for business and education audiences across the UK. Leigh is an ambassador for
MQ Mental Health Research and is the Honorary Colonel of the Derbyshire Army Cadet
Force.
Leigh’s exciting and moving stories of aspiration, self-motivation and survival have been
published in the international and national press. Leigh has also made appearances on BBC
television and radio as well as delivering talks for TEDx and National Geographic.
