Craig Thomas was a Welsh author of international bestsellers. Cardiff-born, Thomas (1942-2011) wrote 18 novels in all, between 1976 and 1998, two originally under the pseudonym of David Grant.
“One of our most accomplished writers … stretching out into new and dangerous terrain. Terrific.” The Literary Review
“A new talent.” The Guardian
“The action begins almost immediately, the pace never flags, and Thomas's prose is direct and unobtrusive: no flab, no filler, all muscle.” Publishers Weekly
“Firefox is as tense and exciting as they come.” Times Literary Supplement
“Will have you sweating bullets.” New York Times
“It’s easily the best espionage book of the year … marvelous.” The Scotsman
The entire Craig Thomas estate – books, film, and tv rights – was recently purchased after a competitive auction with multiple global suitors. The auctioneer Richard Winterton said: “A wonderful and well-deserved result for the copyright to this superb collection of 18 novels whose audacious plots spearheaded an entire genre. Craig’s estate attracted a huge amount of interest from across the globe. The international nature of an online auction with internet bidders joining us from all over the world seems very fitting too, given the focus on technology so intrinsic to Craig’s work.”
Craig Thomas was credited with inventing the ‘techno thriller’ genre – his most famous book was Firefox, made into a Hollywood film starring and directed by Clint Eastwood who starred as the Firefox pilot, Mitchell Gant. It was after the success of this book that Thomas left his day job as a schoolteacher and became a full-time novelist. By the time of the fourth Mitchell Gant novel (A Different War) his global book sales were said to have reached 20 million.
